Update on Train Station Bill

HR 1513, the bill to add the Gettysburg Train Station and a parcel of ground along Plum Run in Cumberland Township to the Gettysburg National Military Park passed the US House in January of this year and was sent to the US Senate.

On Thursday May 22, 2014, the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources voted the bill out of committee as amended.  Now this amendment consists of the heart of the bill being entirely reworded but no substantive changes to the bill were made, except for the method of acquisition of the properties.  In the original bill, the acquisition of the properties was limited to "donation only."  In the new language, the Senate version of the bill adds the authority to purchase the property.

This will mean a trip back to the US House for the bill once the Senate passes it, or perhaps a trip through the House-Senate Conference Committee to iron out the amendment process.

We will keep you posted on the developments of the bill.  In the meantime, you can check for yourself as we have replaced the House version at the top of the right hand column with the new Senate version, S 782, on
