GettysBLOG: Cumberland Township Alert!

Don't forget! 7 PM Tuesday at the Cumberland Township Municipal Building! The Supervisor's Meeting.

“Be steadfast in your anger, be sure in your convictions, be moved by the right and certainty that abuse of power must be defeated at every turn; uphold Liberty as the just reward of a watchful people, and let not those who have infringed upon that Liberty steal it away from you. Never loosen your grip on Liberty!" -- GettysBLOG

If you fail to show up you are effectively handing these greedy politicians your wallets.

Go, ask questions, demand answers! Make these clowns accountable for their actions.

The ONLY reason they chose to go after the $1 million loan as a "non-electoral" expenditure to pay for their "Plan" to expand is because you would never have approved it had it gone on the ballot!

Let them know you don't approve it now! They're going to raise your taxes to pay for it.

It is unneccesary, as are so many of their other decisions.

Remember:

Let them know you intend to keep the heat on until they stop being so arrogant!

GettysBLOG: Are You Ready Cumberland Twp. Residents?

Next Tuesday night is the Clown's Convention...er...Supervisor's Meeting....7 PM. Are you ready for them? You must turn out and make your voices heard. They don't think you will. They believe you do not care.

Here's a list:
1. The Project. No one knows what this entails, except they've already entered into an agreement with Adams County National Bank to borrow up to a million dollars for whatever they want to spend it on and the taxpayers/voters be damned. They have yet to explain the whole thing to anyone.

2. The Water Park. These clowns stumbled all over themselves in their rush to get the Water Park done. Just in case it comes back to haunt them, or in case another group [from outside the county] wants to build another water park in Cumberland Township, they will amend the zoning plan to allow an outdoor water park.

3. The Hotel. Yards from where the Park Service used eminent domain to take and demolish the National Tower, the township has authorized the construction of a four story hotel. The rooms will overlook the Evergree Cemetery on two sides. Maybe the Ghost Tours from Town will prowl the halls out there telling stories, disturbing the guests at all hours, and seeing orbs outside the windows. Here's one vote for the Park Service to use Eminent Domain one more time, and take out the new 4 story hotel AND the Pike Restaurant. They may as well take out David LeVan's place, too. The property was used during the Battle.

4. The Housing Project. S&A Homes shoehorning nearly 350 homes into a nice stretch of greenery along Fairfield Road and butting up against the airport simply is too stupid to contemplate, but S&A and our Clowns did just that. Even to the tune of a very expensive extension to the water and sewer lines run down the Fairfield Road strictly for that development...and all courtesy of....you guessed it, your wallet! S&A gets the profit, you get the bills!

5. The studies. In all of their projects they have yet to release one single study...not an Environmental Impact Study, not a traffic study...nada...zilch...zippo. Now, tell us, please, for example, what impact 350 houses on Fairfield Road below the Gettysburg Times office, will have on our roads, on our schools, on our school buses? Tell us, please, what impact the Water Park will have on our water supply in this area, on the downstream area, and what impact the waste water will have on the township's waste water treatment plants? And please, tell us what impact your big Plan for the township facilities will have on the surrounding area, particularly Willoughby Run?

Start demanding answers dear readers. Demand answers from those clowns. Do not let them get away with the utter arrogance and disrespect with which they treat you and your wallet!

Show up Tuesday night at 7 PM at the Cumberland Township Municipal Building and demand answers! Show the Clowns you are fed up with their Circus! They MUST answer to you!

GettysBLOG: Cumberland Clowns in Panic Mode

Well, the Clowns who are running Cumberland Township approved a loan for $1 million dollars to expand their own facilities because they claim they have run out of space.

In the write-up in today’s Gettysburg Times, by our favorite reporter, Scott Pitzer, the Clowns went out of their way to indicate this deal was being done under a category called “non-electoral debt”. That’s a fancy way to say they can borrow huge amounts without asking the taxpayers for permission via the ballot box.

Obviously, some of you, enough of you, are starting to get through to these Clowns that you are not happy with what they are doing.

They are going to incur a debt that will total close to, if not more than, $1 million over the next seven years while they rebuild the township facilities so they have the room to allow developers to file the paperwork for paving over the township.

What irks us is this:

---No one but the Clowns claims they need more space. We offered several suggestions at making better use of the space they have by eliminating the township manager’s job, and reducing the number of Supervisors [Clowns] to three from five. This then frees up half the required office space in the building, and several parking spots in the lot.

---No one was consulted about this project. Indeed, no one knows anything about this project except the Clowns and the developers and contractors that will get the contracts [even though bids have not even gone out yet.]

---No one has seen the financial bids.

---Has anyone seen an announcement of a meeting to discuss the passage of an ordinance allowing this non-electoral debt?

---Where is The Plan? The Clowns are trying to put you into debt while claiming they don’t even have a complete idea of what the project will entail? What they’ve release3d so far has been piecemeal, and misleading. They are being very deceitful in what they let out to the public!

---Where are the studies on traffic, environment, finances?

---Why was no public input sought on The Plan? On the financing? On non-electoral debt?

Is there any doubt that the Clowns are taking the citizens of Cumberland Township for a ride? You are getting the shaft from these clowns, folks! Royally!

A half dozen good citizens and true could spend an hour in that building and come up with a dozen ways to totally avoid this unnecessary, extravagant and capricious project and even more ways to save enough money to cut your taxes in half.

This is not their money they are spending, it is yours.

And they are doing so without so much as a “by your leave!”

What are you going to do about it Cumberland Township Citizens?

Will you show up at the September 25th Supervisors meeting and express your displeasure?

GettysBLOG: A Crisis in Cumberland Township - When Government Goes Bad!

“Be steadfast in your anger, be sure in your convictions, be moved by the right and certainty that abuse of power must be defeated at every turn; uphold Liberty as the just reward of a watchful people, and let not those who have infringed upon that Liberty steal it away from you. Never loosen your grip on Liberty!" --GettysBLOG
It’s like one of those circus cars, where a VW Beetle is driven into the center ring and eighteen clowns climb out. That’s pretty much everyday life at the Cumberland Township Municipal Building these days. Everything but peanut shells on the floor. And it’s done at a level of absolute arrogance that often surpasses the heights to which the Strabaddies rose during the Casino fight.

The latest edition of the Cumberland Township Circus generated an article by our favorite reporter, Scott Pitzer, in the Gettysburg Times this week giving a few details of THE PLAN. We’ve mentioned THE PLAN before. THE PLAN is a nefarious and nebulous project to double the size of the Cumberland Township Municipal Building and facilities. Township manager Flo Ford was quite vocal on the projects, quoted in the article as saying:
“This expansion is to get us through 2020.”

“Right now we have a lot of equipment that just sits outside in the open. If you have a garage to house your cars, your equipment is going to last a lot longer.”

“We’re out of compliance with a lot. We’re crowded now and have nowhere to go.”
Alright, now we can live with the quote about the equipment. That’s what is called protecting the taxpayer’s investment. But we certainly have a lot of questions about the rest.

Out of compliance with what, exactly? Township supervisors use this term a lot, but they never give specifics. Frankly Ms. Ford, we don’t believe you.

What happens between now and 2020 that makes this expansion so important? Well, you can fill in the blanks. Obviously, massive development is what this crew of clowns that are running the township have in mind.

MASSIVE DEVELOPMENT.

The article goes on to explain, in a very confusing manner, the efforts to find funding for THE PLAN. This involves a seven year note to repay a loan from Adams County National Bank. It is a $1 million loan, according to the Gettysburg Times.

Now, they also indicated they had not solicited bids for the project and therefore can not estimate the cost of the project.

Cumberland Township Residents, do you recognize when you are being sold a bill of goods?

Since when does anyone get a loan first, and then decide how much to spend?

Why the rush? Ford explained that bids would be solicited after the bank deal is closed in October.

Hello?

This is a level of absolute disrespect for the taxpayer and residents of Cumberland Township.
  • First question: Who approved this plan?
  • Second Question: Were taxpayers polled to approve this plan?
  • Third Question: Was a committee formed to explore all the alternatives to the plan?
  • Fourth Question: When was this plan approved by the taxpayers who are going to have to face increased taxes on top of a 1000% increase in taxes two years ago?
This is a major capital expenditure, and it is being rammed down the throats of the residents of Cumberland Township by a group of malicious clowns who have no respect for the people who voted for them. They are NOT serving you, they are serving themselves and the developers who want to pave over this township.

We mentioned alternatives. A first step would be to eliminate the Township Manager’s job. That would not only save money, but it would also save much needed space in the building and a parking spot in the lot.

Problem solved, no expansion needed!

Find another property in the township, closer to town and purchase it for new Police Headquarters. It will shorten patrol routes headed to the other side of Gettysburg and create much needed space at the Municipal Building.

Problem Solved, no expansion needed.

Reduce the number of supervisors to three. This would free up much needed office space and parking spaces, and save some tax dollars [not to mention saving money for the developers!].

Problem solved, no expansion needed.

Unless and until these clowns can justify THE PLAN, and get it approved by the taxpayers, NOTHING SHOULD MOVE FORWARD!

Folks, you need to mobilize around this issue. It is YOUR MONEY these clowns are wasting. They must be stopped NOW!

Any attorneys out there willing to file a request for an injunction to stop them please contact us at the email link on the sidebar. We’ll pass info on to the readers here if someone comes forward.

In the meantime, write letters of protest to the editor of the Gettysburg Times and the Evening Sun [click on the links to generate an email letter to the editor].

Show up at the next Township Supervisor’s meeting, and feel free to bring protest signs.

This kind of arrogance and disrespect must be stopped. This is a project that requires taxpayer approval, and these clowns have already started THE PLAN!

They must be stopped NOW!
